47.365.Sunset

May 3, 2011

And in case you were wondering, you are like a sunset to me
You're all kinds of beautiful as you end my day
And you sweetly retire as the stars chase you away

And in case you were wondering, you are like a hurricane to me
Your violence is beautiful, and your center sweet
Now tell me this, do you know how we'd meet?

And in case you were wondering, you are everything to me.

Please let's leave for a holiday today.
Quit your life and we'll be on our way with the sun in our face.
I am so guilty, but you are so pretty.
Real bad is what I've got.
I'm at the bottom. You're at the top.
A shade of skin that shows no mercy.
Your lips are a sunset that sets over me, and only me.

I'm just like a tree. I'll grow roots underneath you. This ground used to be nothing but soil.

And I am nothing of a builder
But here I dreamt I was an architect
And I built this balustrade
To keep you home, to keep you safe
From the outside world
But the angles and the corners
Even though my work is unparalleled
They never seemed to meet
This structure fell about our feet
And we were free to go

And try one, and try two
Guess it always comes down to
Alright, okay, guess it's better to turn this way

I failed. We went to the Relays and I forgot my camera.

And you lay your head onto my shoulder, pour like water over me.
So if I just exist for the next ten minutes of this drive that would be fine.
And all these trees that line this curb would be rejoicing and alive.
Soon all the joy that pours from everything makes fountains of your eyes
Because you finally understand the movement of a hand waving good-bye.

I went to Des Moines this weekend for Relays. Had to stop at the Capitol to get my diplomas apostilled. There is a big monument thing that I've never noticed before - maybe it wasn't around when I interned there. It's got all kinds of stuff, shows what happened in the U.S. by the years, starting with 1941. Pretty sweet.

Our post office closed. My entire life we've had a post office box (114). Now we have a mailbox! It's a little different.

Can I get a little taste of your lips so I feel alive?
Can you offer up the same uncertainty that I define?
Are you up for keeping in touch once a month or twice a year?
Can you handle regret and a lack of will to persevere?
This apathy will haunt me over and over and over…

So when will I wake up?
Please pinch me I don’t feel a thing.
I’ve got a hand of wish and one of chance,
Don’t bother, it’s enough to get me through it.
I close my eyes and roll a set of loaded dice, I’m sure.
As convincing as a shot in the dark could be
I’ll keep doing what I love with a stab at integrity.
